National ID Documents Production Waste Management

There is therefore the need to explore the challenges and strategies associated with managing the by-products of national identity document production processes.

This presentation will touch on the environmental impact of identity document production waste and try to bring identity technology vendors’ attention to the need to provide sustainable disposal solutions as part of their packages for their clients. Emmanuel Kpakpo Brown

Emmanuel Kpakpo Brown boasts a 14-year tenure at Ghana’s National Identification Authority, where he now serves as Principal Officer in Technology & Biometrics.

Holding a Master of Science degree in Information Technology & Law and a Certified Identity Management Professional (CIMP®), he’s a key figure in Africa’s digital identity arena. Formerly VP of the ID4Africa Identity Council; spent six annual terms as Ghana’s ID4Africa Ambassador and contributed a paper to the industry’s prestigious Keesing Journal of Documents & Identity 2019 – 2020 Annual Report.

Brown is a reputable international speaker and has presented papers at several international identity conferences in several countries across the globe. A few of them include the African Union’s 5th Conference of African Ministers Responsible for Civil Registration (COM5) in Lusaka, Zambia – 2019; Reconnaissance International’s year 2018, 2019, 2020, 2022 High Security Printing – EMEA in Warsaw-Poland, St. Julian’s – Malta, Lisbon-Portugal, and Tallinn-Estonia respectively.

With 19 years in public service, his expertise spans over a decade in the Biometrics and Identity Management industry.

Nick is a Senior Solutions Manager at Veridos in the Business Line IDMS (Identity Management Systems). Nick has been with Veridos and its mother company Giesecke+Devrient for 10 years and focuses business development and business modelling for physical and digital identity systems.

Francis Tuffy

Francis Tuffy has held senior business and technical management positions at Oberthur Fiduciaire, DuPont Authentication, API Security Products and Light Impressions International.

A selection of projects that Francis has led include anti-counterfeit programmes in China (tobacco), Turkey (tea), Scandinavia (mobile phone batteries) and security documents projects in Kenya (tax-stamps), Vietnam (banknotes) and Pakistan (ID – cards)

He has also managed large science programmes at the National Physical Laboratory – one of the leading measurement and testing laboratories in the world and has been called on to advise international anti-illicit trade bodies such as the Kimberley Process, the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region and the OECD.

He was Chairman of the International Hologram Manufacturer’s Association from 1998 – 2000. He has been a Chartered Engineer since 2014 and is a Member of the Institute of Physics.

Early in his career, Francis was awarded a British Council Research Scholarship at Budapest Technical University, Hungary and was a finalist in the Young Science Writer competition run by the Sunday Telegraph.

Francis has business, academic and professional qualifications. He now runs an online science tutoring service (he is a qualified teacher) and is Consultant Editor at Reconnaissance.
